The seepage within the mattress-joints with the underlying sandstone around the upper percentage of its catchment, which headed about the centre on the park, filtered with the soil to sort a definite channel near King and Pitt Streets. The area now occupied by Hyde Park was comparatively flat, mounting a little bit along the centre and elevated.[1]
